Abstract

This study investigates the influence of road infrastructure on educational development in Adamawa State, Nigeria, focusing on how physical connectivity affects school enrolment, attendance, and completion rates. A cross-sectional quantitative survey design was adopted, using structured questionnaires administered to residents of communities across selected Local Government Areas. The data were analysed using Descriptive and regression techniques. The findings reveal that an improvement in road infrastructure quality is significantly associated with a 42% increase in enrolment, a 37% rise in attendance regularity, and a 31% improvement in completion rates. These results provide compelling support for the Human Capital Theory by demonstrating that investment in rural roads delivers substantial social and economic returns through improved educational outcomes. The study concludes that prioritising rural road development is essential to closing access gaps and fostering human capital growth in Adamawa State. It therefore recommends that the government integrate rural road expansion with education sector planning and collaborate with communities and private actors to ensure the sustainability of these investments.
